The tenth generation of Civic has finally arrived. In September 2015 the first member of this generation had been presented while sales started in March this year. Many were anxious to find out new details and information about the previous model, but this time, this is not the case. There is no such fuss as it was last year. However, it is reasonable to believe that second member of the tenth generation won’t bring anything new. Nonetheless, we decided to pay attention to the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback, a vehicle that won’t revolutionize car world, but still, it is one step above the 2016 model.
TRIMS AND VARIANTS
As you read above, 2017 model is the second member of the newest generation of Civic. This means it is going to have several variants: coupe, five-door, sedan, Si trim, Type-R, and hatchback. In addition, the sedan will have five trims: LX, EX, EX-L, EX-T, and Touring. However, in this article, we will focus on hatchback which also is coming in several trim levels. In general, there aren’t huge differences among these variants in terms of performance. On the other hand, body style is similar, but not the same. The coupe comes with two doors, sedan with four while hatchback variant is coming with five doors. Hatchback is our favorite hence we decided to write a review about it.
ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
New Civic is coming with a few engine options, but 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is going to have only one unit – an all-aluminum 1.5l DOHC with direct injection. The 1.5l can generate 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. However, higher trims, such as Sport and Sports Touring, are coming with 180 hp. They are going to have more power thanks to a special exhaust. Generally, the engine delivers the goods and you probably won’t need any other option.
There are both CVT and manual gearboxes. The manual transmission is a big surprise since we have anticipated it for a long time. However, only several trim levels are going to have optional transmission while the others will have only CVT. This shouldn’t bother you due to the high fuel efficiency of this transmission system. EPA rating stands at 31/40/34 mpg. These figures are great, but not surprising since Honda always puts fuel economy under the spotlight. All in all, a flawless engine is going to be placed under the hood and we’re sure it will meet everyone’s demands.
EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR
2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is quite similar to coupe variant. The front fascia is one-of-a-kind and it doesn’t resemble any other you have seen so far. The rear part is also unique and intriguing, especially the taillights. It looks aggressive in general since there is a large trailing roof spoiler, dual exhaust tip and large mesh inserts. Comparing to the sedan, the hatchback has one door more. The fenders and hood are identical, but the roofline is slightly longer.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable data about the cabin, but we have certain expectations. As far as we are the concerned interior of the hatchback shouldn’t differ much from the interiors of sedan and coupe variant. It is likely that technology is going to be exactly the same in all variants. The main difference is space of course and perhaps there will be some more minor differences. Rear seats should be foldable in order to provide additional cargo space. Both rear and front seats are believed to come with the heating system. Some trims are expected to come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
2017 HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK PRICE AND RELEASE DATE
The official presentation of the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is scheduled for September in Paris and release should happen four months afterward. Price is expected to be slightly higher than last year, meaning 2017 model will cost around $21,500, not more than that.
