2018 Honda HR-V Redesign

Honda announced it is going to redesign numerous models in the following years and one of them is HR-V. This car cannot brag with a long history and it is not a legendary vehicle. However, don’t doubt it has a lot to offer. It debuted in 1998 as a three-door crossover, but the production was discontinued for almost a decade. The second generation came completely redesigned and instead of the 3-door SUV we got a 5-door subcompact crossover. It had a huge success in its first year since over $41,000 units were sold. They hope the future model will continue this trend and the 2018 Honda HR-V is already in focus.

2018 Honda HR-V Review

If you are expecting any changes you probably don’t know that this generation was released two years ago. The second generation looks as a totally different vehicle comparing to the first generation. There are more curves and less sharp lines. This means that apart from small refreshments there won’t any significant modification. It will be assembled in nine factories placed all over the planet, in Asia, Latin America, and Europe. Even though Honda is not planning any overhaul in the following few years, they probably have in mind what modifications are going to apply in future models. As every other car it has some advantages and disadvantages and here are some of them.

Under the Hood

  • Engine And Transmission

The 2018 Honda HR-V is going to have exactly the same lineup as its predecessor. It means that two different powertrains are going to be offered. However, Honda will continue its policy of offering different engines to different markets. Therefore, we are going to talk about a European and American variant. The European variant is going to be a 1.5-liter inline-4 with an output of 120 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque. It is less powerful than the American variant and is going to be mated to a manual gearbox. The automatic transmission is not expected.

The second option is also going to remain unchanged. A 1.8-liter inline-4 is able to deliver 150 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. It is the same 1.8-liter used in Honda Civic. The transmission system is different. The 1.8-liter is mated to either CVT transmission or 6-speed manual gearbox. Top speed should be 117 mph while the acceleration is supposed to remain the same – from 0 to 60 mph in 9.3 seconds.

Fuel Economy

Since nothing has changed in terms of powertrain fuel economy is expected to stay the same. Due to two different drive modes, there are going to be two different EPA ratings. The two-wheel drive mode comes with 28 mpg in a city and 35 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, the all-wheel drive has lower ratings – 27 and 32 mpg in a city and on highway respectively. Generally, fuel economy is one of the greatest advantages of the upcoming HR-V.

Design

The 2018 Honda HR-V is coming in three different trims as well as the previous model. The trims are: LX, EX and EX-L, and there are subtle differences among them. The color palette is huge, but there are only four available colors for the cabin and they are versions of gray and black. Currently, there is no available information regarding modifications. However, we believe front fascia is supposed to get new modifications while the rear part should remain the same. Interior doesn’t seem as interesting as the exterior and this may be considered as the biggest drawback of the new HR-V.

2018 Honda HR-V Price and Arrival

There are no official statements, but the 2018 Honda HR-V shouldn’t arrive before 2018. On the other hand, the price is not difficult to assume. Since the 2018 model doesn’t have huge improvements price is going to remain the same. This means that the base model will cost around $20,000.
